"The Effectiveness of Using Total Physical Response (TPR) Method in Improving Seventh Grade of Junior High School Students' Verbs Understanding"
Total Physical Response (TPR) is a method in teaching English where the students pratice some activities directly without translating the words to their first language. The objective of this research is to know how effective Total Physical Response (TPR) method in improving seventh grade of junior high school students verb understanding. This research is conducted at SMP YBPK 1 Tirtoyudo, Malang. This study used quasi-experimental design in the form of two groups namely pre test post test design. There was VII A as control group and VII B as experimental Group. The participants of this study was 50 students. The control group was treated by Transalting and Memorizing method, while the experimental group was treated by Total Physical Response (TPR) method. Both groups were given two tests which consist of pre test and post test to collect the data, this research was conducted in April until May 2018.
The result of the research showed the mean score of pre test in control group was 47.60 and the experimental group was 41.44 . After the treatment, the post test score of control group was 64.96 and the experimental group was 82.56 . After getting the pre test and post test score, the researcher analyzes the data by using Independent Sample T-test is spss vr 22 for windows. Based on calculation, the the significant 2-tailed was 0.001 less than 0.05. it means that H0 was rejected. From the data the researcher concludes that Total Physical Response (TPR) method is effective to improve seventh grade of junior high school students’ verb understanding. This result is similar with the result of the previous study conducted by Noviani (2019) that Total Physical Response (TPR) is effective in teaching phrasal verbs to seventh grade of junior high school .
The researcher also has sugestion to teachers,the students and further researchers. For the teachers TPR is a good method in teaching verb, it will make students more interesting and became active in the class, for the students praticing the verb directly like doing TPR method can be a good way in comprehending the verb. The researcher also hopes that this research can be a good reference for the further reseach
