The Implimentation Of Visual Scaffolding To Improve Students Speaking Proviciency For The First Grade Student Of SMP PGRI Jabung Malang
Using English is as a primary means of communication within international commnication and is not limited to anyone’s country, region and culture. It is the key to overcome the languagr barrier who engagesin a conversation. Encouraging students to communicate English in a classroom is somewhat to be mastered by students. Based on the background, the objective of the study is to know the implentation and students’ attitude through the use of visual scaffolding to improve students’ speaking proviciency.
The subject of the research was first grade students of SMP PGRI JABUNG Malang which involved 20 students. The disign of this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The reseaecher did the classroom action research through the cycle that have four steps: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The researcher used some instruments to collect the data, those are observation, interview, speaking test, questionaire and field notes.
The criteria of success of the students speaking score was ≥ 70. The researcher conducted two cycles in her research. The data gotten showed that the students had significant improvement not only on the their score of speaking test but also on their activeness in speaking activities from the cycle 1 up to cycle 2. In the cycle 1, the students who achieved the criteria of success were 60.8% and it was not fulfilled the criteria of success of this research. So, the researcher was done the cycle 2 as the improvement of the previous cycle. In the cycle 2, the percentage of students who achieved the criteria of success was 70.8% and it was resechd the criteria of success of this research. It means that the researcher could stop the cycle.
The finding of the researcher showed that the students’ speaking proviciency has improved. This strategy was conducted in two cycles that were cycle 1 and cycle 2. In cycle 1, the result of the students’ speaking test does not achive the reseacher target the average score is about 60.8, so the researcher continue the next cycle. The result of students’ speaking test in cycle 2 has achived the reseacher target the average score is 70.8. The researcher could conclude that the implentation of Visual Scaffoding strategy can improve the students’ speaking proviciency. It creates the effective atmosphere in speaking class in which reduce students’ anxiety to speak English.
Finally, based on the research finding some suggestion were proposed. First, for the English teacher, he/she may apply Visual Scaffolding strategy make the students speak up openly and and freely in expressing their thougt and the atmosphere of speaking class was more effective. Last for the next researchershould learn the weaknesses of this research and apply this method more perfectly than the researcher of this thesis.
