Error Analysis In Students Writing Narrative Text In SMAN 1 Gondanglegi
Writing is one of important factors which determine the success in achieving non-verbal communication. Unfortunately, English writing is still difficult to be learned by English learners. They still have difficulties to write something in English correctly through narrative text. This study conducted to find out the errors and the cause of errors of student’s writing at SMA Negeri 1 Gondanglegi. By knowing the problems, it is expected that the teachers, students, and researcher can solve the problems of writing here.
This study used propotional sampling. Fourteen respondents were selected from third grade at language program in the 2013/2014 academic year. Descriptive qualitative research design was used in this study. Data were collected by submitting student’s writing test. Data collection was conducted in August, 2013 at SMA Negeri 1 Gondanglegi. The data were analyzed to find the errors made by the respondents. The findings were presented in form of percentage. The result of data analysis showed that there are certain parts which are difficult to be written in English by the students. These difficulties are shown from the high error percentage. They are: paralellism, misplaced, expletives, and nominalization. Those errors are considered as problems since their language is strongly influenced by their mother language.
Based on the research findings, the frequency of difficult errors should be improved. The writing practice can be given in the form of drills of difficults errors here. On the other hand, the students can be taught the way of writing theoritically, so that they know the process of producing some paragraph with those kind of errors. The students should be enriched with vocabulary in this case to avoid the misunderstanding in writing. It is concluded that the students of SMA Negeri 1 Gondanglegi have not mastered about parallelism, misplaced, expletives, and nominalization very well. And it is suggested that the teacher can ask to the students to have a peer correction inside the class, the students should focus on their grammatical competence, and the next researcher is expected to conduct the study about error analysis in writing deeply.
