Exploring Student’s Strategies in Revising Draft After Receiving Feedback in Writing Class, Thesis, English Education Department, Faculty of Language and Literature
In student ever more mistakes in writing essay. This requires feedback
from the lecturer to correct the students writing. There are several strategies that
students use in draft revisions after being given feedback by the lecturer.
Therefore, this research is focused on finding out students' strategies in revising
draft after receiving feedback in writing class.
Qualitative methods was used in this research. The participants of this
research were 9 students of 2019 intake, 9 students of 2020 intake, and 9 students
of 2021 intake of the English Education Department, University of PGRI
Kanjuruhan, Malang. The research instruments were questionnaires and
interviews. In analyzing the data, the researcher carried out data reduction, data
display, and conclusion drawing/verification. To validate the data, data
triangulation techniques was applied.
The finding shows that most students received direct feedback from the
lecturer in Essay Writing class. After being given feedback by the lecturer, most of
the students understood the results of the feedback given and revised their essay
drafts which had been given feedback by the lecturer. In carrying out revisions,
students have more strategies for revising their draft. Revision strategies that to
was translate from online dictionary, review of errors before the exam,
consultation with lecturer, consultation with friends, translating from bilingual
dictionary, and recording the lecturer voice. When students carry out revision
strategies, students also carry out revision operations on the Essay draft, including
Deleting, Reorganization, Addition, Correcting, Rewriting, Substituting, and No
Correcting.
It can be concluded that students use a variety of revision strategies with
some doing so by combining the strategies they use. Researchers hope that this
research can provide benefits for other researchers and can serve as a reference or
inspiration for conducting further research related to this field
