An Analysis of Gender Stereotypes Faced by the Female Protagonist in “Enola Holmes 2” Movie. Thesis English Literature Department. Faculty of Language and Literature
Examining gender stereotypes portrayed in popular media remained
important for promoting equality and empowerment. While previous research had
analyzed stereotypes in literary works from a broader perspective, this thesis
offered a specific approach to gender stereotypes. Utilizing Brannon's 2017 theory
of gender stereotypes and Macionis's (2001) traditional gender stereotypes,
comparing masculine and feminine traits allowed for a deeper and more multidimensional analysis. This thesis aimed to provide an in-depth analysis of the
gender stereotypes portrayed and challenged through the characterization of the
female protagonist, Enola, in the Enola Holmes 2 movie. Through a comprehensive
process analysis using a combination of two frameworks, this thesis aimed to
provide deeper insight into the portrayal of gender bias in popular media and the
empowering potential of the female protagonist to overcome gender stereotypes.
