The Implenentation of n Animared films with Subtitles to Develop Student Vocabulary Mastery
The study focusing on the importance of vocabulary in English language
learning and the potential effectiveness of using animated films with subtitles as a
teaching tool for EFL students' vocabulary mastery and pronunciation skills. The
study aims to contribute to existing knowledge on vocabulary learning and
innovative instructional methods.
The research design of this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR).
The research was conducted in two Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 with the phases of
planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. For the data collect the research
used by observation checklist and multiple-choice. The participants were 8thgrade students of SMPN 12 Malang, totaling 32 students. The study began with a
preliminary examination of students' vocabulary mastery through observations
and questionnaires. The implementation includes multiple-choice, teaching with
the animated film method. Student learning outcomes were observed and reflected
upon, aiming for a successful outcome where students achieve scores of over 70.
The conclusion reports a successful increase in students. Enriching the
vocabulary of animated films with subtitles also helps viewers enrich their
vocabulary. When students watch new words that appear in the subtitles, they can
learn the meaning and usage of the words. This increase in vocabulary was
provide them with more word choices in daily communication, which in turn can
increase their confidence in speaking with others as well as understanding the
culture and can develop listening skills by combining all the above benefits as
well as enriching vocabulary. Animated film with subtitles can increase students'
confidence in language and communication. It gives them the opportunity to
continue learning and improving their language skills while feeling comfortable
and entertained.
