The Effectiveness of Video Towards Students’ Vocabulary Mastery on Procedural Text at the Seventh Grade of SMP N 2 Trawas Mojokerto
This research aims at investigating the effectiveness of video towards
students’ vocabulary mastery on procedural text which was implemented to the
students of seventh grade at SMP N 2 Trawas Mojokerto. This research included
the students of VII A and VII C as the samples in which they consisted of 26
students in each class. The researcher divided them into two groups, class VII A
as the experimental group while class VII C as the control group. The
experimental group was treated by using video while the control group was given
conventional method, it meant the researcher taught them through English book.
In this research, the researcher used quasi-experimental research design to gain
the data and gave vocabulary test as an instrument to collect the data.
The researcher conducted this research for five meetings (May 5th, 2017 –
May 26th, 2017). In the first meeting, the researcher conducted pre-test to both of
the groups and then treated them for three meetings. In the last meeting, the
groups were given post-test and questionnaire for experimental group. The finding
of this research showed that the use of video towards students’ vocabulary
mastery was efective. It was proved by the result of mean score of experimental
group was bigger than control group (82.50 > 71.19). Moreover, the sig.2-tailed
value was less than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). It meant that H0 was rejected and H1 was
accepted. Therefore, there was significant differences between students’
vocabulary mastery on procedural text who were treated using video and students’
vocabulary mastery on procedural text who were treated using conventional
method.
