Improving Student’s Vocabulary Mastery by Using TikTok as Learning Media in SMP PGRI 6 Malang (Experimental Method)
Vocabulary skill frequently viewed as a critical tool for second language
learners because a restricted vocabulary in a second language prevents successful
communication. However. implementing media through technology is seen to be
effective. This study aims to investigate whether the use of TikTok application as
learning media produce a positive effect on the students’ vocabulary mastery.
Quasi-experimental research design was used in this study. This research was
conducted at the first grade of SMP PGRI 6 Malang in the academic year of
2024/2025. There were two kinds of classes; experimental class and control class
which consist of 22 students for each class, so the sample of this study was 44
students. Each class was given treatment for four times. The experimental class
was taught by TikTok application as learning media and the control class was
taught using conventional technique. The data of this study were taken through
test in form pre-test and post-test. The calculation of the data was done using
SPSS 20 Version.
The research finding showed there was a significance difference between
experimental class vocabulary score and control class vocabulary score. The t–
score was 3.05, this score had a significant value of .004 less than 0.05, which
means that Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. The mean score of vocabulary
test done by the experimental class, was 82.36. Meanwhile, vocabulary test done
by the control class, was 72.55. It meant the implementation of TikTok application
gave significant positive effect on students’ vocabulary mastery
