Analysis of the Main Character‟s Motivation in the Movie “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf"
The background of this research is to provide people with an
understanding of how motivation is driven by needs and to clarify the concept of
motivation that is not well understood by some people, especially about what
motivation is and the forms of motivation. By analyzing the forms of motivation
in the witcher film, this research provides insight into the existence of forms of
motivation and the needs that drive them. 1. What are the forms of motivation
experienced by Vesemir in the movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, and 2.
What drives Vesemir to experience motivation? What reasons make Vesemir
experience this form of motivation. There are two theories used, theory of
McClelland (2014) and theory of Maslow (2020).
The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method with a content
analysis approach in this study. There are one main theories and one support
theory used, the theory of McClelland (2014) in distinguishing forms of
motivation, namely the need for affiliation motivation (nAff), the need for
achievement motivation (nAch), and the need for power motivation (nPow) and
support Maslow‟s theory (2020) to explain the 5 needs that drive these forms of
motivation, namely, 1.physiological needs, 2.security needs, 3.belonging (social)
needs, 4.appreciation needs, and 5.self-actualization (development) needs. The
data used is the movie The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, researcher took the
movie because she believed the movie could help researcher convey the focus of
the research since the researcher found out and selected movie related to
motivation and have the reason for the general public and easy to understand.
