An Analysis of Slang Words Used in The Caddicarus YouTube Channel

Slang word is a language variety which is informal and is used to
communicate more easily and instantly in social context especially in social media.
Recently many YouTuber created content which is intended to international viewer
and they also like to use slang words in their content. Slang words itself has become
a part of our daily life that created a way to be more bonded with the other person
informally. The objective of this research is to analyze about the semantic meaning
change, function, and type of slang word in Caddirus YouTube channel videos.
The research used descriptive qualitative method, because the content
Analyzed comprise words. The data collected from 3 YouTube videos of the
Caddicarus YouTube channel by marking and inputting the slang-specific-word
into table/corpus. This research used triangulation and used expert validator to
validate the research finding. The procedure which used by the researcher are the
semantic meaning change, function, and type of slang employed by the researcher.
The study analyzed 46 instances of slang words found in Caddicarus
YouTube videos, categorizing them into five types: fresh and creative, flippant,
clipping, imitative, and acronym slang words. The findings revealed that the most
prevalent type was fresh and creative slang, with 32 occurrences, likely due to the
frequent use of innovative language in the videos. Conversely, acronym slang was
the least common, with no instances found. In addition to categorizing the slang,
the study also identified various types of semantic changes in the meanings of words
used in the videos. These changes included metonymization, metaphorization,
amelioration, pejoration, generalization, and narrowing.
It is recommended that the results of this research continue to be developed
by further discussing the slang words that are used by youtuber on YouTube and
understanding the motives behind the slang words so it can be conveyed and made
it possible to review the videos in determining the slang words that are used by
youtuber.
