The Effectiveness of Hangman Game on EFL Learner’s Vocabulary Mastery at State Junior High School 2 Purwodadi
Vocabulary plays a vital role in learning English, and this also becomes
the main component of four skills: speaking, writing, reading, and listening. In
contrast, the students have difficulties in understanding and memorizing
vocabulary. The researcher helped the students in mastering vocabulary through
Hangman Game. Thus, in this research, the researcher found the effectiveness of
the Hangman Game in teaching vocabulary mastery.
This research used a Quasi-Experimental design to know the effectiveness
of using Hangman Game medium to improve vocabulary mastery. This study was
conducted at State Junior High School 2 Purwodadi. The researcher started to
collect the data in the School from May 11, 2022, until May 25, 2022. This study
was carried out during three meetings in the experimental class and control class.
There are 30 students in each class. The students in the experimental class were
taught using Hangman Game, while the control class taught without medium or
just the explaining method. To find out the result of the hypothesis, the researcher
analyzed the students' scores using an independent sample t-test and N-gain.
This study found a significant difference between students who were
taught using Hangman Game and those who were taught using the explaining
method. The P-value showed
