An Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Writing Descriptive Paragraph During the Pandemic of Covid-19
In the globalization era, communication is very important, so writing skill
needs to be acquired. Writing is considered to be the most complex and difficult
skill to master, and as a rule, it is more complex and difficult than writing in one’s
native language. English college students have to do various writing-related
activities during their learning process.
This study focused in descriptive paragraph. Descriptive paragraph is how
a person able to express their thoughts of the object's characteristics into writing.
In analyzing students' writing difficulties, we can investigate their grammatical
error, types of sentence error, the vocabulary use, and the coherence between
paragraphs. This study aims to know the difficulties faced by the third semester
students of Universtas PGRI Kanjuruhan Malang in writing a descriptive
paragraph.
The researcher used descriptive qualitative as the research method. The
subjects of this study were 20 students of English Education Department who
were in the third semester. The data of this study was collected by questionnaire
and interview through Zoom application. The present study was done in new
normal situation during the pandemic of Covid-19. The finding of this study
revealed that the students were still unable to comprehend grammar correctly,
misspelled the words, and lack of the vocabulary that the students found it hard to
describe things and deliver the ideas in a written form.
Based on the result, it can be concluded that the students experienced
difficulties in writing a descriptive paragraph during the pandemic of Covid-19.
As for the solutions, the lecturers should make the e-learning process more
exciting by doing various activities so that the student would participate in the
class actively
