Analysis of the Characterization in “Itaewon Class” Korean Drama.

Character is someone who appears in a play, novel, and others fiction. Character is important because it affects how the story or movie will went. This thesis entitled Analysis of the characterization in ‘Itaewon Class” Korean drama is aimed to understand of the five characters in this drama. The researcher chose five main characters as the objects of this thesis such are Park Sae Ro-Yi, Jo Yi-Seo, Oh Soo-Ah, Jang Dae-Hee, and Jang Geun-Won.
The data collected by watching the whole drama with subtitles on and in analyzing this drama, the researcher used descriptive-qualitative method. In this thesis, there are several questions used by the researcher, such as: How are the appearance, the social status, the social relationship, and the personality of the main characters. All the questions have been analyzed through the dialogue, action, thought, and reaction of the characters. The first source of data is “Itaewon Class” Korean drama and the second source of the data is from the subtitle of the drama.
The findings of this research are each character has different characters. Sae Ro-Yi is known as a high integrity, hard-working, responsible, care, and never gives up man. He is also known as a man who has a good attitude. Yi-Seo is described as a girl who has some characters, such as sociopath, lack of empathy, smart and full of charm, discipline, and confident. Soo-Ah is growing up as a realistic, consistent, firm, hard-working, not easily to give up and disciplined woman. Dae-Hee is well- known as a rough, wicked, hard-working, cunning, vengeful, and caring man. Geun-Won is a rough, coward, spoiled, and not independent man.
In conclusion, the researcher gets to know how to analyze a drama or movie and also its component such as slow and fast motion, camera angle, editing and custom. The researcher hopes this thesis can be useful as reference for those who want to have same topic with the researcher.
