An Analysis Of The Function Of Symbols Used In Sumba Woven

Sumba woven was the cultural heritage of the Sumba island community. The
symbols that found in Sumba woven are inspired by flora and fauna that are packaged in
word of art. The purpose of this study was to analyse the function of symbols used in
Sumba Woven. This study applied the qualitative research method. Data collection
techniques were observation, interview, and document study. The data validity technique
used source triangulation techniques. The results of this study suggested that Sumba
woven has some symbols and function. The symbols used such as Mamuli, horse,
chicken, human, coastal bird, dedap flower, shrimp, and cockatoo. Each symbol has its
own meaning and function as mamuli symbolizes fertility and is also used as a dowry in
Marriage. After the researcher found and discussed about the function of symbols used in
Sumba Woven, the researcher made a conclusion of the research finding and discussion.
From the results of this research, the researcher found that it was clear in Sumba woven
dance used some symbols and each symbol has its own meaning. The researcher really
hopes that this researcher to complete this study to be perfect. Furthermore, the researcher
hopes this research can help other researchers or student who wants to continue or do
research in the same field
