5th Graders’ Interest In Learning English On Digital Short Story Videos
In this era, students are digital native. It implies they grow up with
technology. One of the effective learning methods is literature that using short
story. The combination of short story and technology are expected to increase
interest especially at 5th grade. If learning English with high interest, will make
students study hard than those who don’t. The goal of this research was to find the
students' interest in learning English through digital short story videos.
This research use descriptive qualitative research design that aims to
identify the internal and external factors of students' interest in learning English
on digital short story videos. The subject of this research was 23 of the 5th graders
and 1 English teacher at SDK Santa Maria Blitar. Data collection was done by
observation technique, interviews, and by questionnaires. The data in this research
were analyzed by use data reduction, data display, and also drawing
conclusions/verification. The data validity is taken from English teacher at SDK
Santa Maria Blitar.
From the results, it was indicated that students' interest in learning
English was very good because of several internal of students themselves as well
as in the digital short story video that really affected students' interest. There are
several factors that found including health, motivation, intelligence as internal
factors and family, school, and teacheras external factors. All factors gave
contribute each other where the family is the first environment to prepare students
to take their new environment. Student who adapt with their new environment,
will develop their intelligence with support by teacher, friend and the atmosphere
of school. Learning through videos makes students think beyond and begin to
think sharpen their imagination by imagine something that might exceed the limit
of their though and this condition direct to student creativity but depend on
students intelligence itself. It caused each student have differences of ability.
This study conducted with expectation that the teacher will create their
own creative learning activity that using combination of literature and technology
to increase student interest. This study also expect give contribution to another
researcher.
