An Analysis Of Moral Value Of Main Characters In “THE GREEN MILE” Movie
Movies are not only to entertain the audience, but it can also be used as a
medium of learning or education. Many things we can take in watching movies
and this is very useful if we apply it in our daily lives. Movie also make it easier
for the audience to understand what message the director conveys through the
story. In this study, the researcher conducts research on the Analysis of Moral
Value in “The Green Mile” Movie. Moral value can be used as guidelines in our
lives.
The study employed descriptive qualitative design. Descriptive qualitative
design is used to describe and explain what has been interpreted from the research
object. The researcher conducted research by watching the film "The Green Mile"
several times and also reading the film script. The researcher processed the data in
the form of dialogue text from the film script. Three instruments were used in this
study which included: key instrument, observation, documentation. The process of
data analysis included data reduction, data display, conclusion/ verification and
triangulation. The data gathered were then verified by an expert validator.
Finally, the result of this study showed that there are a lot of moral value
that found in this movie which can be example in the daily life. The moral values
found in “The Green Mile” movie are kind, love, commitment, responsibility,
illiterate, afraid of the dark, hopeless, supranatural. The researcher also finds out
how the moral values are presented in the film "The Green Mile". The director
conveys the moral message indirectly because he describes it through the story.
The moral message in the film "The Green Mile" is presented through events,
character attitudes, and actions of characters in dealing with events or conflicts.
In conclusion, the researcher hopes that these moral values can be applied in
our daily life and finally it may give inspiration for people around us. The
researcher also suggested for many people such as English teachers to use literary
work as a teaching resource, for the parents, this film can be accepted as an
example to choose other valuable movies, and for the readers, hopefully, these
findings can be implemented as directive in daily life. Therefore, it is suggested
for future researchers who are interested in literary works to conduct analysis of
different aspects. As this research focused on movie and the analysis of moral
values, future research can be conducted to analyses other literary works.
