An Analysis of Rhyme and Rhythm in Traditional Mandar Poetry of West Sulawesi: The Kalindaqdaq To Manetuo by Suradi Yasil
The aim of this research is to find out the rhyme and rhythm that appear in the Kalindaqdaq poetry of West Sulawesi. Kalindaqdaq To Manetuo Poetry was the object of the research, since the cultural heritage of the arts of the West Sulawesi region must be preserved. The researcher inspected a type of poetry that is rarely analyzed to find rhyme and rhythm. It is found that in every stanza of the Kalindaqdaq poem, there is a rhyme and rhythm that has a different meaning. This research used descriptive qualitative research. The instrument of this research was the researcher himself. Besides, field notes were also used to make gathering the data easier. The data was analyzed by using the rhyme and rhythm theory proposed by Smitha et.al (2019). An expert validator was used to validate the data. The researcher found 7 types of rhymes in Kalindaqdaq To Manetuo poetry. The most frequent of these were feminine rhyme and internal rhyme, which were used with a frequency of 23%. After this, the next most frequent were the eye rhyme and masculine rhyme, which were used with a frequency of 15%. Finally, there are also half rhymes, end rhymes, and imperfect rhymes, but these are each used only with a frequency of 8%. Furthermore, the researcher found all 5 types of rhythms that are described in Smitha et.al (2019). The most frequent of these rhythms was the trochee, which was used with a frequency of 57%. After this was the iamb, which was used with a frequency of 31%. Finally, the researcher also found anapests, dactyls, and spondees, but these have a much smaller frequency: 7% for the anapest, 4% for the dactyl, and 4% for the spondee. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for further researchers or readers who want to learn and enrich their knowledge of rhyme and rhythm. In general, these findings could be implemented. The kalindaqdaq mandar tradition is not just a recitation of poetry, but with the findings of rhyme and rhythm in the kalindaqdaq to manetuo poem, people, especially in West Sulawesi, can understand more deeply the kalindaqdaq.
