The Effectiveness Of Videoscribe On Efl Learners’ Writing Skill
Videoscribe is an application that can be used to create video presentations with animated design hand moves equipped with text and images on a whiteboard. Videoscribe can be a medium for teaching writing because various features are available in this application to be able to present material in an interesting animated video that can help students understand the material and examples of descriptive text easily. So that, Videoscribe can be an alternative learning medium that can be used to make the learning process more attractive and can improve students' enthusiasm for learning by using combined technologies.
This experimental research was conducted to implement the Videoscribe media in teaching writing of descriptive text at ten grades of Senior High School students. This research was conducted by using a quasi-experimental research design, where the researcher gives different treatments to two classes; experimental class and control class, that consist of 30 students each class. While to determine the sample the researcher used purposive sampling. Each group was given five meetings with different treatments. The instrument which is used was writing test: Pre-test on the first meeting dan Post-test on the fifth meeting. To evaluate students’ writing descriptive skill performances the researcher used a scoring rubric and inter-rater. So, the students’ writing descriptive text was scored twice by the English teacher and researcher.
Based on the data that has been analyzed, the students who were taught by using Videoscribe had better achievement than the students who were taught by using PPT. It can be seen from the result of the test after analyzed by using t-test: (1) The mean scores of the experimental class was 77.87 and the control class was 69.87, the experimental class got higher scores than the control group, which means there is significant difference effect between experimental class and control class. In other words, Videoscribe had a positive impact on teaching writing descriptive text (2) The significant value p-value (2-tailed) was 0.00 or less than 0.05, which means there was a significant difference between experimental groups’ score and control group’s writing descriptive scores (3) The result of n-gain indicates that the mean of the experimental group was 0.37 which means there was an increase in students learning outcomes in a medium category because 0.3 ≤ g ≤ 0.7.
The result of the analysis above it indicates that the effectiveness was found. which means that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. In short, the use of Videoscribe in learning writing descriptive text at SMAS Hasanuddin Wajak provides a significant positive effect on the students’ writing ability of descriptive text. The further researcher can do the different research with a similar method by using Videoscribe. It may also useful to conduct this research but with different language skills, such as listening, reading, or speaking. The researcher also suggests the further researcher conduct this study with different variables, populations, and samples to find more varied research results.
