The Use Of Code Switching In Merry Riana : Mimpi Sejuta Dolar Movie
Research on code-mixing and code-switching is very important in sociolinguistic studies in the multicultural Indonesian society. Code switching is the use of two or more languages or language varieties alternately in the same utterance or in the same conversation. This study aims to identify the types of code switching and describe the reasons for its use in the movie Merry Riana: Mimpi Sejuta Dolar.
Researchers used descriptive qualitative research methods by using the object in the form of a movie entitled Merry Riana: Mimpi Sejuta Dolar. The researcher collected data by taking steps to download the film, watching the film carefully, intensively, and comprehensively to understand the story, rechecking the dialog when the film was playing to check its accuracy, recording the code-switching used by the characters in the film Merry Riana: Mimpi Sejuta Dolar, and transferring the data into a data sheet. The last step that researchers take in the data acquisition process is data analysis.
From the results of the study, it was found that there were 51 code switches used in this movie. 7 from Intersentential code switching, 36 from Intrasentential code switching and 8 from extra or tag code switching. The reasons for the use of code switching in the film are six that the researcher found, lack of facilities, semantic meaning, to emphasize a point, speaker's mood, habitual expression and pragmatic reasons.
