The Implementation of Story Re-enactment in Learning Speaking
The use of story re-enactment is believed to be able to encourage students’ oral fluency by acting out stories after they heard or read the stories. It allows the students to be active in class instead of just sit down in class while reading and listening to teachers. The students will also be more creative and have more critical thinking since story re-enactment requires the students’ create their props. This study aimed to identify the students’ perception toward the implementation of story re-enactment in learning to speak.
The study employed a descriptive qualitative design. The participants involved in this study were 15 students of English private courses. The researcher used three instruments in this study which include: questionnaire, interview, and focus group discussion. The process of data analysis included data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The data gathered were then verified by an expert validator.
The result of this study indicated that the majority of students in this study had a positive perception toward the implementation of story re-enactment in learning to speak. Moreover, the students felt comfortable learning to speak using story-reenactment. Most of the students also believed that the use of story-reenactment helps them in learning speaking since it eased them to understand the speaking. In addition, although the students found a challenge in
learning speaking using story re-enactment the majority of the students believed that the use of story re-enactment gave an advantage to the students in learning speaking such as increasing the students’ speaking performance, increasing their speaking achievement, and easing the students in learning speaking.
