An Analysis Of Politeness Strategy On Nanny Mcphee The Movie

One of the humans need today is communication. We need language or commonly called linguistics. In the world of linguistics, it is divided into various branches, one of which is well-known in the world of linguistics, namely pragmatics. Pragmatics is the branch of linguistics that deals with the use of language in social contexts and the way people generate and understand meaning through language. Of course, along with the times, pragmatics can certainly be applied in our daily lives, especially in the world of education. For this reason, in this study, researcher want to examine which politeness strategies in pragmatics are taken from the film Nanny McPhee. The purposes of this study are the researchers can identify the types and meanings of politeness strategies used by the main character in “Nanny McPhee” movie so it can be applied in the world of education. The differences between this study and previous research are this research focuses more on building polite relationships with other people, especially small things that start with the family.
This study applied qualitative descriptive method. The researcher spent about 4 months in collecting data by watching films and trying to understand the utterances used by the one person as a main character in the film. The data are analyzed by using data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions/verification. The validity of the data used by researchers is triangulation technique.
There are two results from the research questions found in this study. First, there are four types of politeness strategies, namely bald-on record, positive politeness, negative politeness and off-record. The researcher found that Nanny McPhee more often used bald-on record as the main character, after that the second was positive politeness, the third was negative politeness and the last one was off-record. Second, the meaning of bald on record which is more often used by Nanny McPhee is in terms of children's needs, namely attention and affection, but by studying children's attitudes, Nanny McPhee must be firm in raising children without hurting them.
From the results of the study, it can be seen that the bald on record strategy has meaning in educating children so that it is more widely used by Nanny McPhee. The researcher hopes that this research can provide benefits for the readers, for the academic community and other researchers as well as a reference or inspiration to conduct further research related to this field.
