The Effect Of Short Videos On The Students' Narrative writing Ability

The students have some problems in writing such as lack of vocabulary
items and less of grammar understanding. In some situation students get
difficulties expressing their idea in their minds especially in pre writing steps such
as outlining . The use of ICT in the classroom gives a new opportunity to the
teacher to bring the impossible things around the world into the classroom. The
use of VITAL (Video in Teaching and Learning) is quite common among the
school which utilizes ICT in the school. This research aimed to know the
significant effect of a short video on students’ writing narrative text.
This study used an experimental research design. This study was
conducted at SMA-Islam Al-Hikmah Bululawang. There were 2 kinds of classes:
the Experimental and Control group, Experiment group was consist of 25 students
and the control group 24 students. The experimental group was taught by using
Short Videos and the Control group was taught by using Digital Sequential
Pictures. To avoid the bias the researcher colaborated with the teacher as rather 2
in scoring the students answer and using scoring rubric as the scoring guide. Test
is the main instrument of this research. To know the result of the research, the
researcher compared students scores of Pre-test and Post-test of experiment and
control group. Then, the data were analyzed quantitatively using an Independent
sample t-test.
Based on the findings, there was a significant difference between students’
scores who were taught by using Short videos and those who were taught by using
the digital sequential pictures. short videos have a good impact on students
writing narrative text. Short video enhancing students' understanding of the topic,
plot, character, main event, general structure in learning writing narrative text.
The short video also makes students easier to gain the idea in the pre-writing
process, the students can write some paragraphs of narrative text by watching
short videos. students feel happy and satisfied during the implementation of short
videos in the classroom. It can be concluded, the use of a short video on students
writing narrative text at SMA Islam Al-Hikmah Bululawang provides a significant
positive effect on students writing narrative text ability.
