Improving Students' Reading Comprerension By Using Colloborative Strategic Reading (CSR) At The Ninth Grade Of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Basaran
Reading is an interpretive activity carried out on a written text to get information from the text. In this research, the researcher applied Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) in the reading lesson to overcome those problem on students’ reading comprehension skill. CSR is an effective strategy to help the students to increase their reading comprehension. at the ninth grade students of SMP Negeri Satu Atap Basarani In this study, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the research design. The researcher focused on the class IX A which consisted of 19
students, 10 male and 9 female. The researcher decided the criterion of success of this study, which should be at least 75% of the students in a total of number get the score higher than 72 (KKM). The researcher also assessed the students from the distributed questionnaire and the researcher get positive results. The researcher used collaborative strategic reading (CSR) to improve students’ learning atmosphere to be more attractive to be able to improve students’ reading comprehension. The procedure of Classroom Action Research consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research instrument used by researcher to collect data were reading test, questionnaire and observation checklist.
In this researcher, there was only one cycle. In this cycle, the researcher gave a test to the students at the end of action. The result obtained by students were satisfactory since all of the students passed the minimum criteria (KKM). The average score of the test was 83. So, the researcher decided to stopped her action and did not need to continue to the second cycle.
In conclusion, the researcher concluded that by implementing collaborative strategic reading could help students in learning English especially Procedure text. By using collaborative strategic reading, the students become more active infollowed the lesson since their vocabulary had increased so that could help the students to understand the text deeply, could determined the main idea of each stage of the text and also retell the text based on their own language. Finally, it is advisable to the teacher to apply the collaborative strategic reading method in teaching and learning process especially in teaching reading.
