The Process Of Using Story Completion Strategy For Student'S Speaking Skills
Speaking is one of the language skills that should be taught besides the other skills which have to be mastered by the students at junior high school. The students of seventh grade at SMP Darul Muttaqin Turen had some problems in speaking such as the difficulties in memorizing vocabulary and also in speaking. The difficulties in speaking activity might be caused by some factors such as grammar, lack of confidence also limited vocabulary. There are two objectives of this research were to describe: (1) to describe the process of teaching speaking using Story Completion strategy. (2) to know the students and teachers’ perceptions about using Story Completion strategy.The method of the study was qualitative method. The research was done at SMP Darul Muttaqin Turen in November 2021. The subject of this study was the students of the seventh grade of SMP Darul Muttaqin Turen consisting of 20 students. The observation was carried out in order to gathered information for the first study on how the process story completion was implemented. The interviewand questionnaire were completed to gathered information for the second study about teacher and students’ perceptions. Based on the result of teaching and learning activity, the students’ speaking skill had significantly improved. They could deliver their opinion, thoughts, and ideas. The data showed that Story Completion strategy could make stories more interested with the higher percentage about 70% students. The result showed that by using Story Completion strategy there was a significant difference in speaking achievement before and after this method was implemented. The technique could make the students more active in the class and motivated themselves to speak up. So, they were not feeling shy and have self enough confidence when they want to expressed their idea in front of class. After using Story Completion strategy, the researcher got a positive response from the students. As a result, Story Completion strategy have the potential to improve students’ active participation in speaking. Besides, they can make the story more interesting through their ideas Therefore, teachers can apply Story Completion strategy as the media in teaching and learning speaking. It makes students easily to speak up in front of class without worries making some mistakes in grammar and for the future researchers may this research become a reference to the other researcher who will conduct on the same field
