The Effectiveness Of Using Scrabble Game In Students' Vocabulary Of Seventh Grade On Junior High School Students
Ricard and renadya (2002) said that vocabulary is a core component of language proficiency and provides much of the basis for how well learners speak,
listen, read, and write. It can be concluded that reading books and listening to English language songs, subconsiously increases student ability to speak and
write. However, recalling the vocabulary was on an easy thing some students. Thus, the teacher need to make creative. There are a lot of techniques that can be taught in the vocabulary teaching and learning process, one of which is using a scrabble game. The objective of the study is to find out the effectiveness of a scrabble game on students' vocabulary mastery in SMP Ma'arif 02 Malang in the academic year 2019/2020.
In this research, the researcher conducted quantitative method with a pre experimental design. The population of this study are all seventh-grade students of
SMP Islam Maarif 02 Malang. The sample of this research is class 7f totaling 32 students consisting of 14 males and 18 females. The researcher collected data by using observation, test dan questionnaire, quantitative data is analyzed using statistical methods, because to find out significant differences in student scores. The result, the mean score of the pre-test is 62.50 and the mean post-test score is 76.56. The significant 2-tailed in this research is 0.00 which is less than 0.05. So, the alternative hypothesis test is accepted.
The result of this study shows that scrabble game is effective on students vocabulary mastery. It can ben seen by the result of the test. So, the use of scrabbles game at SMP Islam Ma’arif 02 Malang is successful to make the students improve their vocabulary. The researcher suggests the English teachers and further researchers to use scrabble games in teaching and learning especially in reading because it helps the students to improve their vocabulary
