The Effectiveness Of Flash Card Game For Teaching hyponymy And Hypernymytowards Students' Vocabulary Mastery
Flash Card Game is a teaching strategy that guides the students to
understand vocabulary mastery based on several steps: preview, question about
vocabulary, reflect and review. Thepurpose of this study is to find out the effect of
flash card strategy on toward students’ vocabulary mastery in eighth grade of
SMP YPK 2 MALANG.
The research design of this study is quasi experimental research. The
samples of this study are classes VIII A as an experimental group (N=18) and VIII
B as a control group (N=18). Vocabularytest and questionnaire were used to
collect the data.The finding of this research showed that flash card strategy has a
positive effect on the students’ vocabulary mastery. The students in the
experimental group (M=76.50) outperformed those in the control group
(M=64.66) in terms of mean scores in the post-test. Statistical analysis was
conducted to measure whether this difference was significant. Based on
calculation using SPSS 16.0..
This finding indicate that flash card strategy gave positive significant
effect on students’ vocabulary skills. It also shows that flash card is an effective
teaching strategy that can be used by English teachers in teaching vocabulary. The
result of questionnaire also support this statistical finding. The students state that
flash cardmake them easier to understand about vocabulary aspecally to learn
hyponym and hyperym.
They also agree that this strategy was easy to be implemented in teaching
and learning process. This result could show that flash card strategy provides
positive effects to teaching vocabulary mastery.
