The Effectiveness Of Using English Song On Students' LIstening Skill At 10TH Grade Of Sma Negeri 1 Boawae
English is one of the foreign languages as the international language in
Indonesia, which has an important role in the world of education. In the learning
process, English has four skills they are speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
From that several skills, listening is a skill that is very difficult to learn. However,
when the teacher teaches practices in the class students only facilitated by their
teachers to practice their listening skills. In this case, the teacher uses several ways
that can solve the problem of students to improve listening skills by using English
songs as media to support the learning process.
The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of using
English song on students‘ listening skill at the SMA Negeri 1 Boawae. The
method in this research was a quasi-experimental study. This study uses
experimental research as research design. The population in this study were
students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Boawae, the research Sample was class X IPA
as an experimental class and was X IPS as an control class the total of students
was 40 students and each class consisted of 20 students. For experimental class
was taught with English song and control class was taught using audio recorder.
The result showed that English song is effective way to be applied. And
English song has positive effect towards students listening skill. This can be seen
from result the independent sample t-test , the score is 16.079 and the sig value ,
( 2-tailed) was ,000, smaller than the significant level = 0,05. The Descriptive
statistic for pre- test from the both group also showed that the mean of the pre test
of experimental scores was ( M = 63.50) with a standard deviation (9.27702). The
mean score of the control group was ( M = 50.20 ) with a standard deviation (
3.13679) .Although the experimental group was higher than the control group.
The result of post-test was given by the researcher to the experimental group and
the control group, it can be concluded that T-test analysis result on post-test for
both classes was Sig. (2-tailed) 0.148. This shows that there is a significant
difference in the average score between class X IPA (Experimental Group) and
class X IPS (Control Group). Descriptive statistic for pre- test from the both
group also showed the test is used to determine whether there is effect after the
treatment of the listening ability of students in the class. Average score of post
test for class X IPS(Control Group) was 64.60 and for class X IPA (Experimental
Group) was 66.80. It shows that there is significance difference in mean score of
both classes. The mean score of experimental class is higher than mean score of
control class. It means there is effectiveness of using English song to increase
students‘ listening
