One way to improve students' writing skills is through feedback In this study, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. The aim of this study is to understanding the type of corrective feedback that teachers used in teaching writing descriptive text and to understand students' perceptions about the type of corrective feedback that their teachers used. The researcher analyzed student writing that contains corrective feedback. This research was conducted at SMPN 3 Singosari.
Based on the findings, from the three types of feedback, the type that is most frequently used by the teachers in correcting students writing is direct corrective feedback with a frequency of 187 (44.41%) times, followed by metalinguistic corrective feedback with a frequency of 124 (29.45 %) times, and indirect corrective feedback with a frequency of 110 (26.12%). The researcher also found the results of researchers' interviews with fifteen students. Seven of the fifteen students said they were happy with the use of direct corrective feedback. Whereas five out of fifteen students expressed satisfaction with the use of metalinguistic corrective feedback and three out of fifteen students stated that they were not happy with the use of direct corrective feedback. In this study, the researcher also did not find any specific explanation about students' perceptions related to the use of indirect corrective feedback.
