An Analysis Of Students Perception On the Use Of Google Classroom To Support English Learning
Nowadays, there are a lot of online learning platforms. Online learning is widely used as a media that supports education particularly in learning. New technologies are being developed to make learning process easier. One of the examples of online learning platform is Google Classroom. The purpose of this research is to investigate the student’s perception on the use of Google Classroom to support English learning. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method to conduct this study.
The subject of this study were seventh-semester English Education Department students of University of PGRI Kanjuruhan Malang year 2017. The data collection techniques used in this study were questionnaire adapted from Shaharanee et.al (2016) and interview. The researcher analyzed the data using theory of Miles, Huberman & Saldana (2014): of data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of this research reveal the following. First, Google Classroom is easy to submitting and sending assignment. Second, in Google Classroom the quality of learning activities is good. Third, respondents feel comfortable conversing through this medium for this activity. The last, respondents are satisfied of Google Classroom and would recommend it to be applied to other appropriate subjects. From the interview data, it shows that Google Classroom is easy to use in receiving materials, assignments and submitting assignments. Google Classroom provides the benefit of making learning easier as a face-toface, study time becomes more effective, efficient and flexible. Google Classroom can make students more confident in expressing their opinions. Lecturers involve students to be active in productive discussions. Students are satisfied with learning in Google Classroom because it can provide more convenience and efficiency for
the teaching and learning process when they cannot meet face to face to deliver material. It can be concluded that Google Classroom is effective for the learning process. For English Education Department students, students are expected to be able to use Google Classroom in learning so that it can increase their understanding of the material and motivation. For English Education Department lecturers, lecturers are expected to increase their professionalism by optimizing the use of technology-based learning media. For future research, it is hoped that this research will be of use to other researchers and as a reference or inspiration to do further in this field.
