The Efect Of Whatsapp Application On Students Writing Ability
This study is aimed to find out the effect of using WhatsApp Application on students’ writing ability. Besides, it is also intended to discover whether students who are taught by using WhatsApp Application have a significant difference to those who are taught by using Small Group Discussion.WhatsApp application can support in operational ways for the students to take responsibility for their own learning. Students can evaluate the product of writing by their WhatsApp application. It make easy for the students’ to submit, create, comments, and give feedback anytime and anywhere.
This study used quasi experimental research design. It was conducted at SMK PEMUDA 3 Kesamben on April 2019. The population of the study was ten grade students in the academic year 2018/2019. The total number of the population was 60 which was divided in two classes. The sample of the study were the ten grade of UPW1 students as the experiment that gives WhatsApp Application as a media and the ten grade of UPW2 students as the control class that gives . The researcher used an written test as the instrument to collect the data. There were three kinds of the test, pre-test, post-test, questionnaire. Pre-test is conducted before giving the treatment while post-test is conducted after giving the treatment, then the questionnaire is conduct for students’ interested about the media.
Based on the analysis, the findings of the study show significant difference between students who are taught by using WhatsApp Application and those who are taught by using Small Group Discussion. The independent sample t-test result was 0.000 on the post-test, and it was lesser than significance level (0.05). The result shows that WhatsApp Application give a positive significant effect on students’ writing ability in descriptive text. It means that WhatsApp Application is an effective media in teaching learning process, because WhatsApp Application make the students interested in writing process. In addition, it helps the teachers deliver the materials easier, since they bring innovation in learning process
