An Analysis Of The Religious Values In The Exorcism Of Emily Rose Movie

Movie is one of the products of literature. Every movie has its own theme. The newest one is a theme with religious values which has become the most interesting movie theme in Indonesia. There are some reasons that make the researcher choose this movie.First, this movie has never been chosen before as the subject of thesis at Kanjuruhan University of Malang. Second, this was one of the most refreshing Christian movies so far. The last reason is “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” movie brings refreshment in order to give education and study about religious values. The objective of the study is to describe the religious values in James Clavelmovie entitled “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”.
The research design used by the researcher in conducting this research is qualitative research design because the data gathered by the researcher is not that of a
numerical form, but it requires a description of the dialogues in movie. The procedure of the research consisted of four main steps, which include watching the movie as the
source of data as many as 7 times, identifying and recording the scenes that have relevance to religious values and putting the data in a corpus analysis, writing down
the conclusion and finding the answer to research problem. The main instrument in this research is the researcher herself who performed the ultimate role in collecting
the data and analyzing the data gathered. The second instrument employed by the researcher is documentation. Through documentation, the researcher managed to
record the religious values found in the scenes of movie called The Exorcism of Emily Rose. In order for the researcher to check the validity of the data, the researcher made use of investigator triangulation through which the researcher managed to acquire some additional information or views regarding to the data collected.
The results of the analysis of the data were formulated in some conclusions as follows. Therea are five religious value found in this movie. The forms of the religious value found in the movie "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" are in accordance with 1 Corinthians 13:4-6; which includes kindness and compassion, patience, help, care and the last is faith and salvation.The dominant ones are kind and compassion, care, help, faith and salvation. And the least is patience. Based on the result of the study, the researcher concluded that studying literary works is interesting and important because it does not only give entertainment, but also knowledge of the values of Christianity that have to be manifested in social life. The researcher hopes that the findings will get knowledge of religious values, especially about the values of christianity.
