Improving Students Reading Comprehension In Narrative Text Through Two Stray Strategy
The aim of this research is to find out the improvement of students’ reading comprehension in narrative text and students’ activeness during teaching and learning process using Two Stay Two Stray Strategy at eight grades students of MTs AL FATAH Tumpukrenteng. The preliminary research showed that the students had a problem in comprehending a narrative text which affected to the score.
The research was done in MTs AL FATAH from January to May 2018. The subject of the study was the students of class VIIIB of MTs AL FATAH consisting of 16 students. It was classroom action research. The researcher did several steps for each cycle. They were planning, acting, observing and reflecting. In collecting the data, the researcher applied several techniques including observation, interview, questionnaire and test.
The result of the research showed that: Two Stay Two Stray Strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension which was showed by the students’ score gradually improved. The improvement can be seen from the result of test which was conducted on the last meeting in every cycle. The mean scores improved from cycle to cycle. The mean score in preliminary study was 62.5. Then it increased to 68.75 in test 1 and 75.6 in test 2. The students became active during the learning process and they
were collaborating with others well as seen from the result of observation checklist.
The researcher found the strength and the weaknesses of the strategy. The strength of the strategy was able to make the students active during the teaching and learning process. Besides, the weaknesses were the students became hectic and this strategy took times. In conclusion, Two Stay Two Stray Strategy could improve students’
reading comprehension especially in narrative text. Moreover, this strategy could make the students active during the learning process.
