Analysis Of Factors Affecting Vocational Students Motivation To Study English
The research was a qualitative descriptive. The main focus of this research is to describe the vocational students’ desire, especially their motivation in learning English. The participants of this research, was the eleventh grade of BDP class in SMK PGRI 6 Malang. To know the students motivation in studying English, the researcher was give the
questionnaire to be answered by them. Than the researcher did the interview with the students who had low motivation and high motivation in learning English. The researcher choose 6 who have high and low motivation students to be interview with, decided from their result of the questionnaire and also helped by the English teacher. Interviewing with the English teacher also helped researcher in getting more information about students motivation.
Based on the result of the questionnaire and the interview, it was found that factors affecting students’ motivation to study English in SMK PGRI 6 Malang was divided into two parts, intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic factors affecting vocational student’s motivation in learning English are; parents, teachers and peer. Meanwhile, intrinsic motivation are; desire, English mastery, confidence and anxiety. Besides, intrinsic motivation in affecting students’ motivation was 81.89%, while extrinsic motivation was 63.21%. It means that the dominant factors affecting vocational students to study English was intrinsic motivation. So, hopefully, English teachers in
