The Effect of Speech Origins on Foreign Language Learners' Listening Comprehension at First-Grade Students of Sma Diponegoro Tumpang Kabupaten Malang
In language acquisition, listening takes role as the thing that provide the main aural input which is really important. The aural input is different, it divines according to the speech origin of the speaker. Whether the input is from natural speech or synthetic speech. The use of difference speech origins for the listening material will bring different effect for students’ listening comprehension.
Therefore, the aim of this research was to know whether the students who are taught by synthetic speech have significant difference on their listening comprehension than those who are taught by natural non-native speaker. In this study, the researcher used quasi experimental research design. There were two groups in this research namely, experimental group and control group. The experimental group consisted of 34 students who treated by using synthetic speech. The control group consist of 32 students who treated bynatural non-native speaker. The instrument used in this research was test.The data analyzed by using SPSS 22.
The result of the research showed significant different from the result of both groups, the experimental group had higher mean score (77.65) than the control group (73.91). The result of independent sample t-test showed significant value of the data was 0.016.From the result above it was clear that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. So, it can be concluded that teaching listening using different speech origins has effect for students’ listening comprehension. It was proved by the result of the test. The researcher suggests the English teacher can use synthetic speech audio material for teaching listening to make the teaching and learning process effective and enjoyable.
