An Analysis of Major Character In "John Wick" Movie

This research analyzes the major character in “John Wick” movie. The objectives of this research are to determine the characterization and problems that were faced by the main character in this movie. The data were collected from the script of the movie. The study only focuses on the dialogue of the main character. There are some reasons why the topic was chosen. First, the researcher wants to know or understand more about character’s from this movie. Second, the author shows the varieties characters and characterization that reader never thinks before.
The third, to make the audiences are able to know and take the positive things from the character and characterization of this movie.
The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research and the instrument is researcher herself. The analysis of the data watching the movie carefully, making some notes, finding the characterization of the major character, and classifying the data, analyzing the data, and taking the conclusion. The data were classifies into two types: characterizations of the main character and problems faced by the main character in every scenes of the movie.
The finding of this research showed that the most dominant characterization of the main character in “John Wick” movie was polite man with 21%, good person and strong man with 16%, ambitious and weak person with 11%, followed by lonely man with 10%, and the least were ambitious, careful and patient man with only 9% from the total of characterization which appeared in every scenes the movie. The research also investigated that the problems which were faced by the main character. The problems were divided into two types: internal and external conflict and the problem solving which is done by the main character. The result of this study is expected to be useful for English literature department students who are interested in analyzing the character and characterization of a character in the movie and the next researcher who want to develop a study on the same topic.
