The Effectivensess Of Story Mapping Technique Towards Students' Reading Comprehension On Narrative Text At Eight Grade Of SMPN 1 Gondanglegi
This research was aimed to investigate the effectiveness of story mapping technique towards students’ reading comprehension on narrative text at eight grade of SMPN 1 Gondanglegi and the significant difference on reading comprehension between two groups; Experimental who were taught by using story mapping technique and control group those who were taught by traditional or conventional technique.
The design of this research was quasi experimental research design. The population of this research was taken from the eighth grade of SMPN 1 Gondanglegi in the academic year of 2016/2017. The number of the subject was 64 students from class VIII F as the Experimental group and VIII G as the control group. Those groups were treated in different treatments, in which story mapping technique only applied in the experimental group. The data were gained from pretest and post-test. The primary data were gained by comparing the result of posttest from the experimental group and the control group. The researcher conducted pre-test to both of groups before given the treatment; it is aimed to know the ability of the students in reading comprehension. Then, the researcher conducted post-test to both of group and the results of post-test were analyzed by using t-test formula in SPSS 22 windows program to know the difference of the students’ reading comprehension achievement between the two groups. The result of posttest showed that t-value was 3.643 and sig. (2 tailed) or p-value was 0.001 in which it was lower than 0.05, it means that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. So, there was a significant difference between using story mapping technique towards students’ reading comprehension on narrative text at eight grade of
SMPN 1 Gondanglegi. It means that using story mapping technique was effective to teach reading comprehension on narrative text at eight grade of SMPN 1 Gondanglegi.
The researcher recommends to the English teachers to apply story mapping technique in teaching reading. This technique is effective and can help the students to learn and comprehend the text easily especially on narrative text. Moreover, the researcher hopes that the result of this research will be useful as a reference for the next researchers in using story mapping technique, and also researcher hopes that the next researchers can apply this technique in different or creative way
