Analysis Of Characterization In A "Meet Me In Istanbul" Novel By Richard Chisholm

Literature is created to produce complete, meaningful and effective language. So it can be concluded that literary work will use language that is different with order work, especially from its style and words choice. The objective of the study is to describe the characterization of the main characters in a“Meet Me in Istanbul” novel by Richard Chisholm. In conducting this study, the researcher used qualitative design. Qualitative design focused on social phenomenon and human participant perspective in the
study. As the result, the researcher found that there are two main characters in this novel. They are Mr. Tom Smith and Mr. Kemal. The first main character is Tom Smith. He is ambitious, diligent, energetic, self-confident, and lovely person.
The researcher explains the characterization of Tom Smith based on through his actions. Tom is described as a ambitious, energetic, self-confident and lovely person. Through dialogue, Tom is described as a diligent and brilliant. Through his appearance, He is described as a lovely person. The second main character is Kemal. He is friendly, kind, smart, pays attention and care person. The characterization of Kemal through his actions is described as a kind, friendly, pays attention, helpful and care person. Through his dialogue, Kemal is described as a smart person. Through his appearance, he is described as a young man. The researcher conclude the characterization which are the prominent character from main characters in the novel entitled “Meet Me in Istanbul” is Tom Smith character. He is a lovely person. Kemal always helps Tom when he searches his fiancé.Furthermore, the researcher gives suggestion which might be useful for the English students, in order to learn more about the way to analyze a literature. Also for the English teacher, this study will enhance and encourage the teacher to further research upon literature. And for the readers this study can be used for helping the readers to know about character and characterization. It can be used as the source of information or knowledge and as alternative reference about the way to analyze characterization in novel. This thesis may be used as a reference in writing thesis about literature analysis.
