The Effect Of Teaching Reading Through Underlining Strategy On Reading Comprehension Of The First Grade Students At SMK Muhammadiyah 7 Gondanglegi Malang
Reading is essential skill for student for both educational and professional success, it is best way of staying in touch with vital new findings and increasing student’s academic and professional. Reading is one of majorly problems of students especially in SMK Muhammadiyah 7 Gondang legi. The researcher wanted to give problem solving, by using underlining strategy to teach reading comprehension. The researcher hoped that it would be easier for students to learn reading comprehension by using underlining.
The aim of this research was to know the significant effect of reading comprehension through underling strategy. To test the effect of the strategy, this study uses quantitative in the form of experimental research. The subject of the research was tenth grade students of SMK Muhammadiyah 7 Gondang legi. The researcher took two classes; the total number was 57 students. The experimental students were X Perhotelan which consists of 30 students and taught by using underlining strategy and the control group was X Farmasi 2. The instrument which considered collecting the data of the research were as follows: pre-test and posttest. After conducting treatment the researcher analyzed the data by using SPSS 19 program. The data was analyzed such as; result of pre-test, post-test and reliability of the test.
In this research proved that underlining strategy was not significant, it could be seen from the sig. 0.333 of independent sample t-test. Its value is compared with the significant level at 0.05. If significant value of this research is less than 0.05 in means alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (H0) is rejected so the effectiveness is founded and vice versa. From the result, it was clear that the alternative hypothesis of the research was rejected because significant value of the
data was more than 0.05.
Finally, the researcher hopes the result of the research can be used as an additional reference for further researches, especially researches which are dealing with teaching of reading. The researcher hopes this strategy can be developed by the other researcher at other places and can give the different result also.
