Improving Students' Descriptive Writing Skill By Using Dictogloss Strategy For The First Grade Of SMA Negeri 1 Kutorejo Mojokerto
This study was carried out to improve the students’ descriptive writing skill by using dictogloss strategy at the first grade in the second semester of SMA Negeri 1 Kutorejo Mojokerto academic years 2014/2015. This classroom action research was collaboratively conducted by means of the design model by Kurt Lewin’s with the following procedure: 1) planning, 2) acting, 3) observing,and 4) reflecting. This study was conducted in SMA Negeri 1 Kutorejo, focusing on the teaching writing skill in descriptive text by using dictogloss strategy. The research subjects comprised 35 Grade X-seventh. The data were collected through interview, observation sheet, test, questionnaire, and documentation.
The result of the classroom action research based on the observation on the learning process showed that the students participated in the learning activities were more active. The result of the observation on the students’ writing achievement in the learning descriptive text writing by using dictogloss strategy in the Cycle I improved by 5.73%, indicated by a mean of 64.22 before the action and a mean of 67.9 attained in Cycle I. The students’ writing achievement in the Cycle II improved by 24.1%, indicated by a mean of 79.7 attained in the Cycle II.
The learning of writing skill using Dictogloss strategy was capable of improving the attainment of the students’ learning outcomes, indicated by fact that 77.14% attained the learning mastery. The explanation above shows that the application of dictogloss strategy is beneficial in improving the students’ writing achievement. From the whole result of this study, it can be concluded that the students’ writing ability can be improved by using dictogloss strategy. This strategy is very appropriate to be suggested to the English teachers as the alternative method to teach writing skill. The students can also use this strategy to improve their writing ability independently. For the future researchers, this study may also be used as reference to conduct the alternative study concerning with the writing ability
