Improving Vocabulary Mastery Of The First Grade Student Of Mts Sumur Dalam Besuk By Using Games
English is an international language that is really important to be taught in every school. In Indonesia, nowadays English is one of the main subjects that determine the graduation of student especially junior high school student and senior high school student. That is why English has been taught since kinder garten. In elementary school, English has become local content subject. But in this case, The English teacher should be creative to make the students feel interested
in studying English. Most of the English teachers use games to teach the students because actually junior high school first grade students are still like elementary school students. The games that is used in teaching English at MTs Sumur Dalam Besuk is whispering game. By playing whispering game, students are expected to firstly seek to solve problems in which they are intimately involved, Secondly they are expected to get satisfaction when the sense a concepts are formulated, the more realistic form of living, except when the actual experience occurs. (Gerlach and Elly, 1989:382)
The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative. It attempts to describe the students to use game in learning English at MTs Sumur Dalam Besuk. Descriptive study is designed to obtain information concerning the status of the nature’s situation as it exists the time of the study The subject taken by the writer is MTs Bahrul Ulum Besuk. Then, he involved the teacher and the students of the school. There is only one English teacher; there are 28 students of the 1st grade. They consisted of 16 males and 12 female students. To obtain some data of students, the Researcher used two instruments. They are observation used to obtain the students responses in doing games by using English. and questionnaire used to collect the data related to the students response toward English language. The findings show that game is an effective way used by the teacher to teach English because it gives good contribution for the beginners, especially junior high school students, to learn English. Games also make the junior high students motivated to be active and creative to take part in mastering English. In addition, they sometimes used the game to communicate each other.
Finally, after analyzing and discussing the findings, the Rearcher suggested that in teaching English by using games for junior high school students is really helpful for the students to memorize vocabulary easily.
