People are belonging to the same social group-of the same trade, profession, hobby, or age to behave in the same way. This behavior influences not only the clothes they wear, but also the language they use. Communication is an important thing in human’s life. Everyday and everywhere they always used it for their needed. Actually, language are uniquely developed and it has many variation. So, we can listen thousands new words was appeared on the spoken language. There are some of the language variations which are created by people in specific community. One of the new languages they made is known as slang. The language of a social group, particularly its slang, is one of the several forms of behavior that keeps the ground distinct from other groups.
Slang is casual spoken language which differs from dialectical speech.It is designed to make speech more casual and playful, and it may not always be suitable for polite company. Slang as known not only on spoken language but also in written text,such as: on teenagers novel, magazines, and also on social media. This study concerns with the analysis of slang language made by people in social media especially facebook. The data taken from We’re Friends Community, its one of facebook communities which is contain by people who wants to now more about slang language. The writer choose this topic because of social media is one of the tranding topic on the globalization era. This research is purposed to know how slang language is used in facebook’s status by people. Research design used in this research is Descriptive qualitative research design. In this research, the writer focusses on slang to be analized, especially in its characteristics, kinds of slang and also how people use it in daily conversation.The data analyzed in this study are the slang language on facebook’s status written text, so the main source of data is the transcript (written text data) of facebook’s status by peoples on facebook community.The findings show that there are many kinds of slang which is apply by people in facebook status, such as : society slang, slang in public school and university, cockney slang, and also workmen’s slang. Besides, there are many characteristics which is find in this terms, such as : fresh, flippant, and also
creativity characteristics.
Finally, the writer hopes that this study will be useful for the future improvement of studying literature, especially about slang language and as a
reference for the students of English education department faculty of teacher training and education, Kanjuruhan University of Malang who want to do the similar research.
