The Effect Of Picture And Picture Method On Writing Ability At The Second Grade Students Of SMPN 3 Jabung Satu Atap
Writing is one of four English language skills. Writing skill is very important for education in Indonesia. Writing skill help the learner gains, independence, comprehensibility, fluency and creativity in writing. If the learners have mastered these skill, they will be able to write. So that, not only they can read what they have written, but also other readers of that language can read and understand it. The purpose of this study is to know the students writing achievement, especially on descriptive based on picture. Another purpose of this study is to measure the students’ ability on writing descriptive based on picture. This study was conducted to measure the ability on writing descriptive text based on picture by the second grade students of SMPN 3 Jabung Satu Atap which is consist of two classes that devide into Experimental and Control group. Each class consist of 29 students. This study used a form of quantitative research. The data are collected through three steps; collecting data which are students’ writing test and questionnaire, identifying the mistake of students’ sentences, checking and scoring students’ test and questionnaire. The result of the data have been formulated by using SPSS version 22 on windows 2008.
This study reveals the following finding: the Post-test of Experimental group has the higher frequency (75.69) than Control group (73.45) and the questionnaire result shown that 87% of students’ agree that Picture and Picture Method helped them in writing descriptive text. And the result of the study showed that Picture and Picture Method is effective for students’ writing descriptive text. There are several suggestions for teacher, students and the further researchers in the future in applying Picture and Picture Method in descriptive writing class. The teachers should learn and be creative to find the way how to teach writing by applying effective method. The student is also being aware that writing is important in English communication, and the students should trainee theirselves to write individually or group. And for the futher researcher, Picture and Picture Method can be implemented for other genre such as narrative, procedure, report, etc and can be conducted in other grades. The result of the study can be used as an additional reference or further researcher with different discussion.
