Speaking a language is performing speech acts. Speech act is used to apply by human to communicate with others people around every time even though we don’t realize it. It appears when making statements, asking question, giving commands, and making request. Language is also a needed to interact. We used to imply language as known such direct and indirect speech act. This study is conducted to find out and describe speech acts stated in Ramona and Beezus Movie. For building good knowledge of English speech act is one of the many interesting object to study. Speech acts are characteristically performed in the utterance of sounds or the making or marks. Speech act consists of locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. Locutionary act is an utterance. Illocutionary act is the function or meaning of an utterance.
Perlocutionary act is the effect of the utterance. There are direct and indirect speech act. Direct speech act refers to impolite English whereas indirect speech act refers to polite English. While Ramona and Beezus is an interesting family movie deal with many troubles such lost job, selling house, etc. The conversation in that movie provides many speech acts to analyze.
The design of this research was a descriptive qualitative. Qualitative method is focused on individual meaning of the experience who live them. This design of the research enables researcher to make analysis about speech acts such as documentation and corpus. Furthermore the researcher uses theory triangulation to convince that this analysis is valid. After having analysis of the data, the result of the study show that the speech acts state in Ramona and Beezus movie namely request, asking, suggestion,
blaming, accusing, assertion, promise, and refuse. The researcher also finds out there are some classification of speech act stated in Ramona and Beezus Movie namely representative, directives, commissives, expressive, and declaration. All of conversation in the movie generally use direct and indirect speech act. At last, this study hopefully could benefit for the students, teacher, and the next researcher. For the students this study provides much information about speech acts such as the theory of speech acts, related easy conversation for implementing in real life, and the using of movie as an interesting media to learn English. And then for the teacher, this study could be used as a source to teach speech acts and pragmatics. And the last for the next researcher, this study provides many references and become a comparison source for easy to make research later. Moreover, don’t forget to make collaborator with previous researcher and teacher to get the better result of the research
