Word Formation Processes Used By Raditya Dika In Stand Up Comedy
Language is a system of communication consisting of sounds, words and grammar. It also has so many ways to express somebody’s feelings such as happy, sad, joyful etc. There are two types of language such a written and spoken language. Written language is indirect form of communication such as book, newspaper, novel, etc. While spoken language called as oral language is the form of direct communication such as conversation, speech, show, telling story, etc. To comprehend the content of the utterance of someone have to know about the words.
So, the purpose of this study is to get the kinds of word formation processes and to reveal the percentages of occurrence of word formation that used by Raditya Dika in stand-up comedy. Raditya Dika is a stand-up comic; he is one of the juries in Stand-Up Comedy Indonesia in the Kompas TV channel. He got appreciation as the new favorite comedian in YAHOO OMG Awards 2013. This study is focused on showing word formation process which contain in stand-up comedy. The researcher took 20 video performances of Raditya Dika and 10 kinds of word formation. Word formation is the process whereby new words come into being in a language. There are some ways of word formation namely; coinage, borrowing, derivation, compounding, blending, clipping, backformation, conversion, acronym and multiple processes. This study also employed descriptive qualitative research since the researcher explored the problems and the data were collected in the form of words. The instruments used are documentation or the real video of Raditya Dika.
The findings of this study were shown that there were 1048 words of word formation processes used by Raditya Dika in stand-up comedy. The number of word formation processes used by Raditya Dika in Stand-Up Comedy was 2 words of coinage, 223 words of borrowing, 470 of words of derivation, 9 of words of compounding, 11 words of blending, 117 words of clipping, 11 words of backformation, 10 words of conversion, 19 words of acronym and 176 words of multiple processes. Indeed the most frequently used by Raditya Dika in stand-up comedy is derivation which has 470 words (44,85%). From the analysis result, the researcher hopes that this research could be useful for everyone such as the teachers, students and further researcher who wants to either learn or conduct research about word formation process. Thus, she hopes that this study will give a lot of information and explanation especially about word formation processes and it could be a reference for further researcher in the same field and explore in a different aspects in order to make extend and sharpen understanding word formation processes.
