A Morpological Study Of Derivational Affixes In English Song Lyrics By One Direction Up All Night Album
Morphology is the study of the internal structure of words and it has many parts. For examples, morpheme, lexeme, affix, etc. According to Fromkin (1983:158) the study of word formation and internal study of words is called morphology, part of one’s linguistic competence includes knowledge of the morpheme, words, their pronunciation, their meaning, and how they are combined. Morphemes combine according to the morphological rules of the language. Derivational affix is affixes which change the formation and the category of word. It can be shaped by adding prefix, infix, and suffix, and combined by other words that can change the word class. In this study the researcher is interested in analyzing derivational affixes that found in One Direction: Up All Night Album’s song lyric. Therefore, the researcher entitles the thesis “A Morphological Study of Derivational Affixes in English Song Lyrics by One Direction: Up All Night Album” concerning with the analysis of the derivational affixes then aroused a problem of the study, four problems formulated in this study are: 1) What are the types of derivational affixes found in One Direction: Up All Night Album’s song lyrics? 2) How is the affixation found in One Direction: Up All Night Album’s song lyrics? 3) What are the functions of each derivation? 4) What kind of derivation affixes which are used frequently in One
Direction: Up All Night Album’s song lyric?.
Furthermore, theoretically the results of this study about theory of Francis Katamba in derivational affixes are expected to be useful for the researcher about derivational affixes in English song especially One Direction’s songs. For the reader would get information about derivational affixes in One Direction’s song. Practically, after finishing this study the researcher expected that the result of this study the researcher expected that the result of this study can make the reader interested in studying about derivational affixes and could be as alternative references that the researcher aims to give a beneficial contribution for students, especially for those who study in English department. Besides, the researcher also hopes this study will be beneficial for the lectures, the listener of One Direction, as well as for the next researchers.
The researcher hopes this thesis will be an interesting source to be studied for Kanjuruhan University of Malang and this thesis also useful for other researchers who want to discuss the similar topic.
