Improving Students Reading Skill On Descriptive Text By Using Two Stay Two Stray For The First Grade Of SMP NU Bululawang
English has four components of language skills. They are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Thus, as one of the language skills, reading is very important. By reading ability, the students will be able to understand and transfer the contents of reading passage in written or oral form. In this part, the researcher would like to improve students’ reading skill of SMP NU Bululawang which have difficulties in vocabulary, understanding the text, lack of reading a book, found out the words, and felt hard in comprehending the text. Due to that, the researcher was interested in applying the new teaching strategy especially of the first grade students of SMP NU Bululawang. Here, the researcher will use the Two Stay Two Stray method to teach the students’ reading skill on descriptive text.
In this research, the researcher uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. There are four steps namely; planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. Besides, the researcher used some instruments such as an interview, an observation checklist, questionnaire, test, and docummentation. In the finding and discussion, the researcher found out some problems faced by the teacher in the classroom. Based on this problems, the researcher did the research by using Two Stay Two Stray method to improve students’ ability in reading skill. The researcher conducted the research in two cycles. The result in the Cycle I failed. There were 13 or 52% students did not reach the minimum score and 12 or 48% students passed the minimum score. Due to that, the researcher did the implementation in Cycle II. The result of Cycle II showed that
23 or 92% students passed the minimum score and 2 or 8% students got score under the minimum score. There were three meetings which belongs to Cycle I. Meanwhile, there were two meetings in Cycle II To conclude, the implementation of the Two Stay Two Stray method is sucessfull. The students’ reading skill improved and they were active in joining the class. Finally, the suggestion were addressed to four people. For the students, they must have high spirit and motivation in learning English. Then, for the
English classroom teacher, he or she has to be creative in the use of method in teaching and learning process in order to make the students interested in learning English. Next, for the headmaster, can be applied the Two Stay Two Stray method for any subjects not only for English subject, but also for other subjects. The last, for the next researchers, he or she could use the Two Stay Two Stray method in different skill and level of students to make their skill improved and make the students interested in joining the class.
