The Effect Of Dialogue Journal On Students’ Writing Ability
Writing is one of complex subjects at school and it is a productive skill. Meanwhile, the ability to write is aimed to prepare the students to express themselves in a written form possibly helps the students to express their feeling in journal. It will help students in improving their writing ability of recount text because they will try to make a conversation in written form based on their experience. The researcher proposes technique of using dialogue journal in conveying the material of recount text to make students interest in the lesson and learn recount text easily. Accordingly, teacher is not as a writing-evaluator, but teacher as a partner of writing.
This research belongs to quantitave research which is experimental research. The researcher conducted the research at tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Malang. The objective of the study is to analyze whether the students who are taught by using dialogue journal have better ability than those who are not taught by using dialogue
journal on their students’ writing recount text. Instruments that are used in collecting the data are tests, observation checklist, field note, questionnaire, and interview. The sample were two classes of tenth grade SMAN 2 Malang; They were IBB 1 as control group and IBB 2 as experimental group in which each class consists of 20 students.
The finding shows that experimental group’s achievement was higher than control group. The result of analyzing by computing statistical analysis showed that the students’ post test of experimental group was 82.00 and for control group was 73.20. Moreover, the significant difference between students who were taught by
using dialogue journal and who were not. On other words, ha cannot be rejected.
Based on the finding, the researcher concludes that dialogue journal writing is effective applied. Students gave positive response and they feel more enjoyable doing writing. The students’ score have improved. Dialogue journal made them keep in relation with their friend, teaching learning process was interactive and they can share their feeling through writing without embarrassing anything. These effects included the opportunity for students to express themselves better, to share personal feelings and to assist in their development in the writing process by getting their ideas down in their writing
