The Effect Of Wordless Picture Books In Teaching Writing Narrative Texts For Tenth Grade At SMA Negeri 1 Bululawang
Writing is very important, it is a difficult subject especially for the student. Because writing is mixture idea, vocabulary and grammar. The problems of teaching and learning writing is many students feel dislike writing. Most of the students had difficulty in generating and developing ideas. They had hard time even in starting their writings. The use of picture media can help the students to develop ideas and imagination. One of kind picture media to teach teaching writing narrative text is wordless picture book. Wordless picture books is a type of picture book in which the illustrations or the pictures tell the story with no or very little text. The pictures in the book are chronologically arranged. The objective of this study is to know wheather the students who are taught by using wordless picture books have better score than those who are not taught by
using wordless picture books on their writing narrative texts at the 10th grade of SMA Negeri 1 Bululawang.
The research design is quasi-experimental research. The population of this research is the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Bululawang in 2013 – 2014 academic year. The sample of this research is divided into 2 classes. The sample were chosen using random sampling technique. Randomly, the researcher select X.A.3 class as experiment group that consist of 31 students and X.A.4 as control group that consist of 28 students. The instruments of this research use test. The data collection technique used in the research was writing test. Research data and descriptive statistics were analyzed with T-test using SPSS 16 for windows.
The result of T-test of experiment group‟s and control group‟s score in posttest showed that the mean score of experimental group is 76.46, meanwhile the mean score of control group is 69,59, and deviation standard of experiment group is 5.876. Beside, t-score is 5.801. Df (degree of freedom) is 56. While, significant is 0.000 less than 0.05. So, the null hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted. It showed that the students who are taught by using wordless picture books have better score than those who are not on their writing narrative texts at the 10th grade of SMA Negeri 1 Bululawang. In conclusion, wordless picture books is one of visual media which effective
in teaching and learning narrative text to improve score of the students at SMA Negeri 1 Bululawang in writing narrative texts. Wordless picture books is also was able to improve of students vocabulary and stimulate the students interst‟ students in teaching narrative texts. In addition, wordless picture books is one factor which supported teaching and learning writing narrative texts. Because wordless picture books were very helpful to generate and develop the students‟ ideas and creativity. It is suggested that the teacher use the wordless picture books in teaching writing since it can solve students‟ problems in writing. It is also suggested that other researchers conduct other researches which apply wordless picture books in other skills and genres.
