Improving Students Vocabulary Mastery By Using Vocabulary Role-Play Strategy At Second Grade Of SMA PGRI 6 Malang
English is very important because English is an international language. Almost all of people in the world use English language to communicate. It is because English is the language used as international communication. In this research the researcher applied the interesting technique that made the students easy to understand the meaning of vocabulary by using vocabulary role-play strategy.
The objective of this study was to describe how vocabulary role-play strategy improved students’ vocabulary mastery at the second grade of SMA PGRI 6 Malang. In this study, the researcher used classroom action research (CAR). The subject of this research was the second grade of SMA PGRI 6 Malang. There were 15 consisted of 9 male and 6 female students in that class. The researcher did this study used test, the action was gave after implementing the strategy. Vocabulary role-play strategy helped in teaching learning process. This study was supported by some theories from Nunan (2002: 110) who says that “vocabulary is a list of words and often, phrases, abbreviations, and inflectional form.” It is usually arranged in alphabetical order and defined or otherwise identified as in a dictionary. The research design was used by the
researcher conducted in this thesis was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The objective of the study was to know vocabulary role-play strategy could improve the students’ vocabulary mastery. The researcher collected the data by using some instruments. They were interview, observation, test, and documentation. There were two cycles that the researcher conducted in this research. There were three meetings in each cycle, both of cycle the researcher gave test to know the students’ ability. The researcher used quantitative and qualitative data to analyze the data.
The researcher took conclusion based on the result of implementing vocabulary role-play strategy in this research. The implementation of vocabulary role-play strategy to improve students’ vocabulary mastery was successful based on the observation and the result of the test. The result of cycle I average score students was 45, 6 %. It meant that the result did not reach and failed the target of criteria of success while the result of cycle II the average students’ vocabulary score was 76, 2 % meant that the method was successful.
