Improving Students’ Writing Ability In Descriptive Text Using Imaging Creating Visual Picture
In this modern era English is the important language to be mastered by all of people around world. In mastering English, there are four skills that have to be mastered first, they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Writing is the one of important skills in English, through writing we can express what we think and imagine. The students in SMP An-Nur Bululawang, Malang still had difficulties to produce written language, especially in descriptive text. The students had problems in writing descriptive text because the students had difficulties in finding idea, organizing ideas, lacking of knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary, and having low motivation. Therefore, in this study, the researcher wanted to help the first grade students to improve the students’ writing skill in writing descriptive text by using Imaging Creating Visual Picture.
Teaching writing in Junior High School is sometimes not easy to do by the teacher. It will be better for the teacher to teach by using media. In writing descriptive text using Imaging Creating Visual Picture can gain and hold student’s interest during teaching and learning process. Imaging Creating Visual Picture can be used as media because it is interesting and relatively short to be understood easily by the students. The objective this research was to know the improvement of writing descriptive text by using Imaging Creating Visual Picture at SMP AnNur Bululawang, Malang.
The research method used in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR) on focusing in individual of the students in the first grade of SMP An-Nur Bululawang, Malang. The action research was conducted in five meetings. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation checklist, questionnaire, and tests.
The result of the research showed that there were positive improvement in either students’ writing skill or the class situation during teaching and learning process. It was shown of the average score of the pre-test was 62.12 %, there were 3 or 7.32 % students who got success, and 38 or 92.68 % students who failed. And the average score of post-test was 79.83 %, there were 36 or 85.37 % students who got success, and 6 or 14.63 % students who got failed. It meant that the research was successful.
Based on this study, the researcher found that teaching descriptive text by using Imaging Creating Visual Picture was very beneficial for the students because it was interesting, and it could give the stimulus to the students, so that the students could be easily to construct and generate the idea into a descriptive text. The students also could arrange better paragraphs based on the generic structure of descriptive text. It is suggested and recommended for the English teachers to use Imaging Creating Visual Picture in teaching writing English, especially writing descriptive text.
